Dysart Harbour is situated on the north coast of the Firth of Forth just east of Kirkcaldy. It is an early east coast port with a long history of trade, initially to the Low Countries in the15th century, then the Baltic states and finally exporting coal from the local Fife pits.
For the last 52 years it has been the home of Dysart Sailing Club who lease the property from Fife Council. Many of the early members were miners who built clinker 'Dysart Yawls' and sailed and raced them for pleasure. Today we have a mix of small yachts, motor boats and pot or rod fishing craft, the club organises racing, cruises and fishing competitions.
The harbour consists of inner and outer basins, with chain moorings laid by the club, The outer harbour dries to a hard sand base with water and soft mud in the inner basin. Entry for most craft is 2.5 hours either side of high water. There is a launching slipway, boat and trailer storage areas and visitor berths on the west pier. The 'Harbourmasters House' offers hot food and refreshments and is the administrative centre for the Fife Coastal Path.
